Gallery: Dodgeball Tournament

The Dodgeball Tournament took place on Nov. 7-8. Thirty two teams competed each bringing in 18 cans for Wilhemina’s Kitchen in Kansas City, Kansas. The winner of the tournament was Team Quincy.

Girls varsity soccer will kick off against Lawrence free-state at 7 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Athletic Complex.

The girls C soccer team tied the Olathe West Owls

The girls C soccer team tied the Olathe West Owls 1-1 on Monday, April 21. 20 minutes into the first half, freshman Sadie Jolicoeur scored the first and only goal for the Lancers, assisted by freshman Campbell McKee. In the second half, freshman Sadie Algren took a shot on goal, but an Owls defender blocked it with a handball, earning a yellow card. Overall, the Lancers attempted 13 shots, with only one resulting in a goal.

The girls C team has five games in the next week. Their next match is against Lee’s Summit West on April 23 at 5 p.m. at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.

The girls JV soccer team defeated SM South 3-0 on

The girls JV soccer team defeated SM South 3-0 on Tuesday, April 15. Five minutes into the first half, freshman Violet Casey scored a goal with an assist from sophomore Anastasia Flower. Freshman Audrey Rose scored the second goal and was assisted with a pass by freshman Violet Casey. The third and final goal of the game was scored by junior Grace Thibault and assisted by sophomore Maya Monyakula. Goalkeepers freshman Landry Duchene and junior Stella Beaver kept a clean sheet and contributed to their team’s second shutout of the season.

The girls JV soccer team has their next game on Thursday, April 17 at 5 p.m. against Olathe Northwest at the Shawnee Mission Athletic Complex.

Zero Reasons Why — a teen-led campaign that aims

Zero Reasons Why — a teen-led campaign that aims to prevent teen suicide and destigmatize mental health in Johnson County — will be hosting a community mental health forum in the SM East commons from 5:30-7 p.m. on April 22.

The night will start out with small group discussions led by Zero Reasons Why Teen Council members from local high schools. Then, six panelists will answer teen-submitted questions about the night’s topic — combating loneliness through community engagement.

“If you are facing loneliness, or know someone who is facing loneliness… I recommend that you go,” Teen Council member Shubra Durgavathi said. “It’ll be an interesting conversation, and you’ll be able to hear a wide range of views, ideas and experiences.”

Can you imagine a real-life Twilight Sparkle from

Can you imagine a real-life Twilight Sparkle from “My Little Pony” stabbing someone in the chest and ripping out the victim’s intestines with their horn? If you can’t, Alex Scharfman’s new horror-comedy film “Death of a Unicorn” is sure to paint the picture delightfully dark red.

Loosely based on the real “Unicorn Tapestries” — famous textile Dutch depictions of unicorns from the late 13th century — “Death of a Unicorn” shows the mythical creatures as eloquently violent and vengeful. But not without a cause.

The plot kicks off with Elliot, played by Paul Rudd, and his daughter Ridley, played by Jenna Ortega, running over a unicorn on their way to a mansion owned by Elliot’s rich boss — Odell Leopold played by Richard E. Grant. After Leopold refuses to give the unicorn back because of the profitable healing properties in the creature’s blood and horn, the unicorns come for the corpse of their lost one-horned kin — and they don’t hold back.
