For Dia de Los Muertos, the Spanish classes at Shawnee Mission East decorated ofrendas, a Spanish shrine, and learned about the special cultural aspect of the Spanish celebrations of Dia de Los Muertos. “I loved being able to decorate the cookies with my friends and just see who could make the ugliest one,” laughed junior Gabi Talavera. “The presentations were super interesting too, especially the Selena one. It was really cool to learn about her life, because I never knew much about her.” Students spent class time learning more about the holiday, and had a day of making altars for celebrities who have passed away.
