Gallery: Boys Varsity Basketball Falls to St. James Academy 58-44

The Lancers hosted the St. James Academy Thunder in the first round of the SM East Championship Showdown on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m., ultimately defeated by the Thunder. The Lancers started off the first quarter up 6-4 with senior Will Beck scoring four of six points. The Lancers lost their lead in the second quarter allowing 18 points to the Thunder after scoring eight points going down 22-14 at the end of the half. The second half started off with the Lancers scoring 14 points equaling their first half score with Beck still leading the team in scoring with 12 points. Beck scored two of the teams four made three-point shots. With the fourth quarter starting the score was 43-28 Thunder. The Lancers would score 16 points to go up to 44 points that would still fail to surpass the Thunders final of 58 points.

The Lancers went on to defeat Raytown South 38-31 in the second round of the showdown on Dec. 12 and defeated Lawrence Free State 54-31 in the Consolation Game of the showdown on Dec. 13. The Lancers will travel to Lawrence for their first game of the regular season against Lawrence High School on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
