Gallery: Boys Varsity Basketball Falls to Olathe North 60-49

In a sea of orange, the varsity basketball team and students from both schools wore orange to honor junior Carlie Foutch, who passed away from leukemia on Jan. 28. During warmups, all players wore white T-shirts with “We play for” written above an orange leukemia ribbon on the front of the shirt. The players, coaches and student sections also held a moment of silence to remember Foutch at the beginning of the game. More details on Foutch’s story can be found here.

In the first quarter, after a free throw by senior Blake Hanson in the last three seconds, the quarter concluded with the Lancers up 13-12. The second quarter concluded with a score of 24-22 with the Eagles in the lead.

During the halftime, the 2024 Sweetheart Court was announced. The court included: seniors Patrick Flint, Nora Herring, Maggie Leonard, Katie Murphy, Claire Schudy and Sam Williamson. All six nominees were crowned at the three point line after all the candidates had walked out with their relatives.

In the last two minutes of the game, the Lancers scored four points, with a layup by junior Will Beck and a two point shot by senior Teddy Saylor being the final shots by the Lancers.

The next boys varsity basketball game will be on Tuesday, Feb. 6 against Olathe East at 7 p.m. at home, which will also be Cheer Senior Night.
