Gallery: Boys Varsity Basketball Fall to Rockhurst 68-52

The Lancers took on the Rockhurst Hawklets in the annual rivalry game for the 27th year in a row on Friday, Jan. 31. Students began lining up outside of Rockhurst at 4 p.m. hoping to get a ticket into the game. With only 300 seats available, students had to fill out a Google Form on Monday, Jan. 27 in order to get a place in the ticket line but they wouldn’t know if they got a ticket until they arrived at Rockhurst. Prior to the start of the game the Lancers had a record of 6-5 while the Hawklets had a record of 14-2.

At the end of the first quarter, the Lancers were down 13-7. Going into the second quarter the Lancers continued to trail behind the Hawklets, 30-21. During halftime, senior Tyler Strongman participated in a shooting contest against a Rockhurst student. The first person to score a layup, a free-throw and a three-point shot Won, Strongman lost the contest. After the half, the Hawklets continued to lead the game 45-38. At the end of the third quarter, the winner of the Coaches vs. Cancer Chick-fil-A Challenge was announced. The challenge started on Monday, Jan. 27 and was hosted by the Chick-fil-A on Ward Parkway. Both schools competed to raise more money than the other, however Rockhurst won the competition., Overall, 20% of the money raised by both schools will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.In the end, the Lancers fell to the Hawklets 68-52. Senior Will Beck was the highest scorer for the Lancers, scoring a total of 13 points. The team’s record now sits at 6-6.

The Lancers will play their next home against Gardner Edgerton on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m..
