The Boys’ Varsity Baseball team defeated Rockhurst High School 5-4 on Wednesday, May 1st 2019. When asked about the game, Senior Daniel Hammond was proud of how the team played, “Beating Rock[hurst] was a really cool experience for me this year. That game meant a lot to me on a deeper level than just baseball because I spent my first two years of high school there [Rockhurst]. Last year I was able to pitch against them which was great, but this year I was able to watch my teammates compete and battle it out without me because I was designated hitter. I didn’t play too well, I didn’t do my only job which was to hit, but that made me really appreciate how hard my teammates played and made up for hits where I lacked in that category. I think baseball is such a cool sport because it’s based upon individual performance, but your teammates can make up for your mistakes. That’s what they did for me against Rock[hurst] this year. I came to East in search for a better [base]ball program and it’s an amazing feeling to have beaten Rock[hurst] while wearing a Lancer jersey the past two years.”
East’s next game is on Tuesday May 7th where they will have their senior night.
