Gallery: Boys Tennis Defeats Rockhurst on Senior Night 21-9

The boys JV and varsity groups honored seven seniors before their duel against Rockhurst High School on April 28 at Harmon Park. Seniors Aidan Hook, Jake Hanson, Stephen Bubb, Weston Hedrick, Jaylen Patel, Nick True and Jakey Jolles were all congratulated on their accomplishments and given a flower to represent their hard work. 

The matches started at 4 p.m. In total, the Lancers played 30 matches, winning 21 of them. The SM East varsity team went 9-0, while the JV team went 12-9. 

Some of the standout matches included doubles, with sophomore Christopher Long and senior Jake Hanson defeating Rockhurst seniors Hunter Stout and William Volker 9-7. In singles, sophomore Brody Feldman defeated Rockhurst freshman Abhay Joseph 8-0. 

The varsity boys tennis team plays next on Thursday, May 1, at College Boulevard Activity Center for the Sunflower League tournament, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Sophomore Tyler Russell is thrilled to be a part of the Harbinger for his first year as a staff photographer. While continuing to decipher the perplexity of J-data, or messaging his photo mentor countless times a day, Tyler is still loving his experience on the staff. Other than scrolling through endless photos, Tyler is on the SME tennis team and an East Fund Ambassador. Apart from Harbinger, he can either be seen chowing down on some Chipotle, baking with his friends or spending some much needed quality time with God. »

Sophomore Lila Elwood is excited for her first semester on Harbinger as a staff photographer. She is eager to learn and to start her photography journey. Aside from Harbinger, Lila is also a part of the dance team at East. When Lila is not at school you can find her at her dance studio or hanging out with friends and family. »

Will Griffith
Junior Will Griffith is starting his third year as a photographer on staff as an assistant photo editor. When he's not scrambling to edit photos or check galleries, he is most likely on the soccer field in goal or the football field kicking and punting. Will loves spending his Saturday mornings watching premier league games and then watching college football the rest of the day. Will is excited to start the new challenge of an assistant photo editor and ready for the new role. »

Annie Trenkle
Annie Trenkle is a sophomore at Shawnee Mission East. She is in her first year of being a photographer for the Harbinger. Outside of taking photos, Annie plays tennis, basketball and soccer for Shawnee Mission East. Other than sports and photography, Annie loves school, her friends and her family. »
