The Shawnee Mission East Lancers won the 2018 swim and dive state championship meet on Saturday, February 17, their fourth year in a row to do so. Coming into the state meet, SME was a favored choice for winning once again due to their excellent performance in the preliminary trials the day before. At the conclusion of the finals meet, SME led the state at 316.5 points, with the closest runner up at only 297.5. Crucial in this decisive victory was the 400-yard freestyle relay team that won first place. As Senior Aidan Holbrook says about his final race as a Lancer, “It feels absolutely amazing [to win]… and it doesn’t ever go away, ever go away.”
