Recap and Gallery: Boys’ Soccer vs. Blue Valley Northwest

Last night, East’s boys’ soccer team took on the Blue Valley Northwest Huskies. East came into the game as the underdogs against the Huskies who were ranked number two in the state, at 8-1-1. Each team started with a defensive heavy, counter-attack formation.

The first half was even between both teams. Each team fought for the ball around midfield and were able to make quick drives up the field. East was much more successful with their drive attempts, possessing the ball more and having multiple shots on goal. The Huskies goalie had to make several diving saves to keep them in the game. Each team went into the half 0-0.

The second half started the same way the first half ended. Each team was fighting for the ball around midfield, making drives up field. However, at around 25 minutes, East started to dominate possession. They made strong drives down field, but the Huskies’ goalie was able to make several diving saves to keep the Lancers out of the net. With 13 minutes left in the game, senior Noah Eidemiller took a deflected header inside the goal box and put it in left corner of the net. East went up 1-0.

East’s offense kept driving, and dominated possession for the rest of the game. They beat the Huskies 1-0 for their eighth win on the season. East is now 8-4-1 on the season.

After the game, Head Coach Jamie Kelly said it was the best that East has played all year. It showed that they can compete against other strong teams including SM Northwest and Olathe East, who have both beaten East earlier in the year.
