On Thursday, Sept. 8, the SM East Blue Knights jazz band played for the student body during the SHARE Assembly. SHARE is East’s massive, student-run community service program which includes a variety of activities ranging from a running group promoting female empowerment to birthday celebrations for inner-city children. At the beginning of each year, SHARE holds an assembly which introduces the new projects to the student body, and the Knights took the opportunity to play during the intermissions as a way to test their chops.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, they played for the attendees of the Prairie Village Jazz festival. This annual event is held in order to “celebrate jazz music with the residents of Prairie Village”. The Knights were the first of two acts; many more were planned, but due to torrential rain and driving wind, the festival ended shortly after the Knights’ performance.
