Money for the DECA trip to New York has been stolen from marketing teacher Mercedes Rasmussen’s room. Rasmussen suspects that the theft happened after she left the money in her desk overnight.
She noticed the theft when she was recounting the money last week. Bookkeeper Joan Burnett had told Rasmussen that the total amount of money, which was all checks and one $100 bill, was incorrect. Burnett had noticed that the $100 bill was missing. To disguise the missing $100, the thief rewrote the totals of money on a different envelope.
“I thought I had another student count the money or Joan had rewrote the amount and I used her envelope,” Rasmussen said. “I thought I was losing it.”
The case is currently being looked into by the school police officer, David Parker.
