The Class of 2026 has brought lots of talent to the table this year on the cheer team with all 16 of the freshmen being on the competition team. 12 of the 16 freshmen made mat and gets to perform at the competitions. Nine of the freshmen on mat for the competitions have their own tumbling passes and freshmen Abby Jackson is the point flier. This is an incredibly rare occurrence for a freshmen squad to be given this much opportunity.
Along with all talented individuals on the team all the girls work well together. Freshmen cheer coach, Carolyn Wolff credits the girls for their teamwork and dedication.
“As a team, each girl is pushing for their stunt group to be a part of a routine,” Wolff said. “Everyone works hard and is always wanting to improve as a cheerleader and help the team improve as a whole.”
The team is able to pick up and learn choreography fast allowing them to get to showcase new routines almost every week at games.
The girls are flexible and able to make changes to a routine quickly. They learn routines almost every week to perform at the next game. The girls are quick learners and put in 100% to make each stunt as best as it can be according to Wolff.
The girls especially excel in tumbling. There are quite a few girls who came with past experience in tumbling and there are multiple girls on the team who are currently learning how tumble. Captain, Jane Rasmussen talks about their advanced tumbling skills and how it has helped them show off their skills.
“80% of freshmen cheer already knew how to tumble and or had advanced tumbling skills coming into tryouts, and now we have multiple girls in the process of learning how to tumble” Rasmussen says. “It helps us stand out and gives us opportunity to showcase our skills.”
