Freshman Madison Hyatt Takes Trip To The Big Apple

Freshman, Madison Hyatt was putting the last things together in her already over filled suit case, her nerves were binding in her stomach and after seven months of preparation the day to leave Kansas City had finally come. Hyatt and her choir group called Allegro were given an opportunity most only dream of. Allegro was going to New York City to sing at Carnegie Hall.

It was 5 a.m. a time where the sun hadn’t risen and usually Madison would be in bed still asleep, but she was in the car with her parents driving to the Kansas City airport. When they arrived, her parents helped get her luggage out of the car and they said their goodbyes and parted ways. Hyatt met up with her choir group, went through security, all 100 of them together, and boarded the plane.

“Once I was on the plane I was fine, it was like the whole process before that got me nervous. But I played on my I-Phone the whole way and before I knew it, I was there,” Hyatt said.

When the choir group landed it took awhile to get the kids’ luggage and the limos were late to pick them up, but once they got to the city Madison’s eyes lit up.

“I loved the city the minute I saw it, everyone was busy, the people were a little rude but I didn’t mind it, it’s nothing like Kansas,” Madison said.

“Maddie [Madison] was given a great opportunity, I think its great that she is now able to say she sang at Carnegie Hall, its kind of a big deal,” Leah Hyatt, Madison’s mom said.

Madison along with the choir group was staying at a hotel in groups called their Allegro ‘Family’. Each family had about four kids and one leader, or parent.

The first two days of their trip they practiced with two other groups that were chosen to sing with them.

“We had to get our voices in sync and make it sound perfect,” Hyatt said. After a two hour practice they were able to go around on their own with their families to shop and eat, but most of their meals were provided by a catering service.

On the third day the group had a rehearsal at Carnegie and practiced the routine they would go through the next day for the performance.

The fourth day was the performance with an audience of thousands; all the preparation had finally paid off. Madison’s parents and grandparents flew out to see her perform.

“The performance was beautiful and breathtaking,” Mrs.Hyatt said.

Madison now has goals of moving to the city when she grows up and plans on visiting as much as possible. “There is just so much to do, like on weekends we never have anything to do but in New York that would never happen, there’s always something going on,” Madison said.

Hyatt recently tried out for the highest Allegro level called “Brio” a selected group of 40 out of the 100 other singers, and made it. Now that she is in Brio she will have so many more opportunities to travel around the world with the Allegro Brio group.
