The Forensics Squad placed first in sweepstakes out of 12 schools at the East Kansas NFL (National Forensic League) District tournament for individual events at SM North this past weekend. This is the tournament that qualifies students to the national tournament in Indianapolis this June. East had several students place and qualify for nationals.
NFL National Qualifiers:
Chris Carey/Jack Mitchell: first in Duo Interpretation
Karl Walter/Henry Walter- first in Public Forum Debate
These four students will join the following who have previously qualified for NFL Nationals at earlier tournaments this year: Ada Throckmorton/Utsa Ramaswami (Policy Debate) and Ali Dastjerdi (Congressional Debate).
Finalists:
-Chris Carey: Second in Humorous Interpretation (Students can only attend nationals in one event so Carey’s spot in HI was deferred to the third place contestant)
-Erika Levy: fifth in Humorous Interpretation
-Liam Murphy: sixth in Humorous Interpretation
-Jayden Robert/Nick Kraske: fourth in Duo Interpretation
-Jayden Robert: fifth in Original Oration
-Ali Dastjerdi: second in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking (Students can only attend nationals in one event so Dastjerdi’s spot in FX was deferred to the third place contestant)
-Henry Walter: fifth in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking
Semifinalists:
-Jackson Bonk/Denisa Butas: Duo Interpretation
-Alec Armer/Sam Bernard: Duo Interpretation
-Jack Mitchell: Humorous Interpretation
-Karl Walter: Dramatic Interpretation
-Alex Ritchie: Dramatic Interpretation
-Hanna Bautz: Original Oration
-Brian Philipps: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking
