The Nut Cup came back to SM East once again as the Lancers beat the SM North Indians 42-7. The Lancers beat the Indians through the air and on the ground, which was a good sign for their offense going into one of the biggest games of the season. The game started off with a muffed kickoff by SM North’s kick returner, which was recovered by the Lancers. Two plays later, senior Jake Libeer went 17 yards for a Lancer touchdown. Libeer followed up the next series with another score, this time from 39 yards out. After that the Indians’ Mason Perez went 95-yards to the house on a kick off return. After a long drive for East, senior fullback Jeff Cole responded with a touchdown pounded up on the goal line. Right before the half, junior Patrick Blackburn blocked a punt that senior Tyler Nelson recovered in the end zone. Early in the third quarter, senior running back Adam Lowe, who was returning from a MCL injury, went 11 yards to put the Lancers on top 35-7. The game was capped off by a 10-yard touchdown pass from junior Nick Pirotte to junior Connor Rellihan.
Now that East has secured the Nut Cup for the fifth straight year, the Lancers turn toward a tougher opponent. The Olathe South Falcons have remained unbeaten through week 3 of the season however the Lancers hope to end that streak when they rematch the team that sent them home early last season.
The Falcons are a run-heavy team with big players between the tackles. The Lancers will need to establish a good running game this week and continue to dominate in the passing game as they have done so far this season.
Injury Report:
Troy Wilkins- Concussion, possible for this week
Jack Sayler- Shoulder injury, possible for this week
Dakota Collins- Broken ankle, 3-5 weeks
