The Lancers faced off against the Lawrence High School Lions in their sixth district regular season game last Friday. The Lancers won 48-26 at the Lawrence High stadium.
East blew out Lawrence with five rushing touchdowns on the night from seniors Nigil Houston and Eli Kurlbaum, including a 80-yard rushing touchdown from Houston.
East’s big play offense continued with two throwing touchdowns from the Kaiser-Thompson combo, one being a 51-yard throw. At the end of the first half, East led by a convincing 35-12 lead.
Defensively, East gave up the most points so far in the district regular season, but still applied a lot of pressure on the Lawrence quarterbacks. First, East caused an ankle injury to the Lawrence starting quarterback, junior Dante Jackson, forcing sophomore Garrett Romero to come in. Romero is normally their third-string quaterback, but the second string was also out due to injuries.
Lawrence’s Trey Moore was the reason for most of the Lions’ points in this game with 200-plus rushing yards and two touchdowns.
This game extended East’s record in the league to 6-1, ranking them fifth in the state. East gave Lawrence their second loss overall, ranking them at ninth in the state, according to Max Preps.
East’s next game will take place on Friday Oct. 21. East will take on local rivals Shawnee Mission West at the Shawnee Mission South ditrict stadium.
