Last Friday, Oct. 29, East football coach John Sherman was awarded the title of Chiefs High School Coach of the Week. Along with the award, East will receive a $500 grant from the Chiefs.
Sherman, who won several awards like this in Platte County, was quick to add that it was the hard work of the team that led to the Lancers’ success.
Sherman has led the Lancers to an 8 – 1 season, including the first win over Shawnee Mission West since 1993 as well as both the District and Conference championships.
Looking towards to the rest of the season, Sherman says the team and coaching staff has complete confidence in quarterback Robby Moriarty to lead them through the state tournament.
The Lancers will play Olathe South this Friday at Shawnee Mission North District Stadium to kick off their run at the state tournament.
