Junior Joey Wentz is a guard on the varsity basketball team, and also pitches for the varsity baseball team. Wentz has played on the varsity basketball team since his freshman year, alongside his older brother Vance, who graduated two years ago. He is committed to play baseball at the University of Virginia.
What has the team done well this season?
We won four straight [before losing on Tuesday]. They were all pretty close. I think we just need to keep winning. No one really cares who scores or who gets all the stats as long as we win.
Where does the team need to improve?
Everyone overall shooting. I think if we really shoot the ball well, no one will beat us.
What’s been different about your second year on varsity?
We had more seniors so I have more of a leadership role this year than last year.
What are you doing to try and fill that leadership role?
Just try to lead, make sure the freshmen, sophomore guys that play JV know what to do or don’t get surprised in practice.
How does being committed to play baseball at Virginia affect you now?
It doesn’t have too much of an effect on me. I still do baseball five days out of the week.
