Fall Sports Update: Oct. 29

Three of the seven fall sports seasons remain active. Let’s take a look into what remains for each sport.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Cross Country state meet is culminating the xc season. The state meet is this Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at Rimrock in Lawrence.

One previous meet is the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival with the team placed 11th overall, where schools from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas all competed.

“We expect to win [state],” sophomore Sam McKnight said. ”We have had a good season and are confident headed into the state meet.”

Football

Tonight is the last regular season game for the football team, and if they win they will secure their third district championship. The Lancers currently hold a record of 7-1, and with a win tonight, they will be the number two seed in the state tournament.

“We obviously need to be prepared in the secondary because north has one of the best quarterbacks in the league,” senior Jack Tyler said. “If we all do our jobs and stop him, we should be able to get the result we want.”

Soccer

The boy’s soccer team is coming off a huge win against Shawnee Mission South in the regional round of the playoffs. Junior Stanley Morantz put one in the back of the net as time expired, which tied the score and sent it into overtime. The Lancers won in a penalty shootout, six goals to four.
“It was a huge win for the team. We have some major momentum going into our next playoff game. Hopefully we will bring home the state title,” senior Liam Griffin said.
