Student Council Executive Board elections will be held on Tuesday, March 7 where students will be asked to vote for a Student Body Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President.
What can you promise will happen next year with you on StuCo?
“One thing I’m pretty excited about is that we’re going to have a method of payment for tickets for dances that is going to be electronic so that you won’t have to deal with cash. Right now what we’re thinking is you would go and it would be kind of like an online store where you would purchase a sweatshirt, but it would be for the dance tickets. And I believe there would still be a cash option for students who would prefer that.”
If you would want the student body to know one thing about you what would it be?
“I want them to know that I have the best interest of everyone in mind when I make decisions. My commitment is driven by the desire for everybody’s high school experience to be the best it can be.”
What fictional character fits you best?
“We’re gonna go with Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, he’s a really cool guy.”
What makes you keep doing StuCo?
“I want to make sure that everyone feels welcome because that’s important for the high school experience. And the opportunity to be on StuCo is really important because it builds you as a person and a leader. Leadership is a super important skill to have in and outside of school. I really like interacting with students and talking to administration and StuCo gives you the opportunity to do that.”
What does a Secretary do?
“A lot of people think StuCo is when you have a title that is very specific to just your role. Which you do, but I wouldn’t say that one of us does more than the other. We all have our different responsibilities, but there’s not something that a treasurer would do differently than a vice president or secretary. I’m currently the Vice President right now, but I’m running for Secretary just because to me, it’s not about the title. It’s about being able to have this opportunity to help the school.”
How will you work with others?
“I think I work well with our Exec Board already just because I’ve done a year with them. Jack Kessler and Ira Finkelston and I are on Exec Board together right now, and I’ve known them since first grade. So we all have a personal connection outside of school, which has really helped.”
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
“I think the main thing is my experience. I’ve had this opportunity for almost a decade on StuCo to get how it works and I’m willing to write an email to administration or go talk to them about events. I’ll do all the grunt work that other people might not want to do. I feel that StuCo is something I’ve devoted the larger part of my life to.”
If you could only say three words, what would they be and why?
“Yes, no and maybe. Because if I found myself in a predicament it’s a lot easier to answer yes or no questions rather than open ended questions and if I only have three words, then yes, no and maybe are the standard answers.”
Why did you decide to pick StuCo back up this year?
“I had a lot of people come up to me and ask me to run for either president, secretary or senior class president, and I have a lot of friends that are also running for Exec Board again. So I just decided to pick it up.”
How did it make you feel having people tell you to run for Exec Board?
“Really good, honestly, because it was so unexpected, especially because I hadn’t done it since freshman year. Emma Krause was the one who first came up to me and was like you should run for student body president and I was kind of shocked but I also really considered it for a while and that’s what I was gonna go for. But I decided on Secretary because it seemed like an easy transition into StuCo.”
What would you like to accomplish this year?
“I really want to take over the StuCo social media because I feel like people know about StuCo but could not care less at the same time. People don’t even vote because they don’t think it impacts them. Social media is the best way to reach all of the students to help them realize how much StuCo impacts their high school life.”
What would you like the student body to know about you?
“I’m definitely approachable, in the sense that I’m not gonna scare you or be passive aggressive toward you. I’m also very creative and can think outside of the box. I can put a positive spin on an issue and just look at the bright side or think of ways that we can just kind of make it better.”
If there were to be a movie made about your life, what would the title be and who would play your character?
“Lili Reinhardt would play my character for sure, we’d just have to give her hair a perm. I’d hate to just say ‘Mysterious’ for the title since that’s so basic so maybe ‘A Closed Book.’”
What have you done before on StuCo?
“I helped plan the Chili Cook Off, it was really just our junior class that set up a night where about 10 or so teams all made chili and then competed to see which chili tasted the best. Maybe 50 people turned out to taste the chili.”
What’s the biggest obstacle that StuCo has to overcome next year?
“Really just an emphasis on school spirit and camaraderie overall. This previous senior class had kind of been lacking at school dances and I want to try to bring attendance back for next year.”
What’s your goal for next school year?
“I want to increase our dance turnout because it could be very fun, but also I would like to plan more school tournaments like dodgeball or volleyball tournaments to help raise money for charities.”
If you were a salad, what dressing would you have and why?
“Definitely a chop salad with ranch dressing because it’s a personal favorite and very delicious.”
How do you feel about applying to be student body president again?
“It feels pretty good. I’ve talked to some teachers, and I don’t think there’s ever been a junior student body president. I have a unique opportunity now to kind of apply the experience I gave this year and then be able to apply next year, which not a lot of people ever had this opportunity to be president twice.”
What can you promise will happen next year?
“I’m hesitant to make promises but I will definitely continue the work that I started this year as far as creating inclusive events that all of the student body can participate in more frequently. I definitely want to increase the amount of [free] events that we have.”
What do you want the student body to know about you?
“Fun fact: I’m the president of the fly fishing club. I want more people to get involved in the fly fishing club.”
How many pennies do you think could fit in East?
“Definitely a really, really high number like multiple millions. We have a pretty wide school, all five floors are really stretched out so I would say like 200 million. And that includes filling up the pool with pennies.”
