Math teacher, STUCO sponsor and Link Crew leader Hannah Pence was born in Kansas City, Missouri but grew up in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Pence has one older sister and as a child enjoyed taking dance classes and playing sports, specifically soccer and basketball. Pence attended Highlands Elementary School, Indian Hills Middle School, and Shawnee Mission East High School.
When Pence was a student at East she was involved in many extra curricular activities. She was a member of STUCO, she was a Share Exec one of the first years they existed, and was in a class for students who were interested in becoming teachers and got to go to the middle school second semester of senior year in the afternoons to help teach math classes. After High School, Pence graduated with a degree from the University of Kansas’ School of Education.
After five years of college, Pence got her first teaching job at East and has been teaching here ever since. Her first year at East she taught Algebra 1 and College Prep Math. Now Pence teaches Algebra 1, Discreet Math, and Statistics.
Outside of her teaching life, Pence lives with her husband and her two year old Joe. Pence’s life motto is to not take things too seriously. Even though Pence is a very serious person, after having her son, she learned to laugh at herself and not take herself too seriously. In the future Pence plans to keep teaching and wants to keep being involved at East with being a STUCO sponsor and a Link Crew Leader.
