Shawnee Mission East is a home to many unique clubs. Among them is Club Bano and La Toilette. For a single passing period, one of the many bathrooms is jammed full of high schoolers chanting words such as ‘bano’, or ‘la toilette’, with music blasting in the background.
Club Bano and La Toilette are clubs that meet before big school sporting events, to get the boys and girls hyped up for the game. La Toilette is organized by senior Annie Savage, who texts in a group chat and alerts all of the members to meet. News of Club Bano is spread by word of mouth.
“Club Bano really fun, because all of the guys crowd into the bathroom right before a big game and chant ‘Bano Bano’ really loud,” junior Michael Mardikes said. “The chanting gets us all excited to go and cheer at the game.”
Sophomore Emily Walter also agrees about that La Toilette can be a source of fun.
“I had always heard about club bano and was disappointed because I never got to take part in it,” Walter said. “When I heard about La Toilette I was pumped because I could finally be a part in something like it.”
La Toilette was started this school year to get the girls pumped up for sporting events as well. While Club Bano and La Toilette are two clubs that are relevantly new to Shawnee Mission East. They provide the right amount of pep for students to get excited about the amazing sports that the school has to offer.
