East Musicians Make All-State Ensembles

By

Eighteen East musicians made varying all-state musical ensembles, including concert band, orchestra, jazz band and choir. Everyone who auditioned for this program, held by the Kansas Music Educators Association, did so in early January against kids from all over the state, according to all-state musician Coleman Brockmeier.

“The all-state audition process begins early in the fall, with preparing the audition music,” Brockmeier said. “Since it’s so competitive, it’s important to spend a lot of time practicing. Unfortunately, if you have a bad audition, all your hard work can end up meaning nothing.”

The musicians from around the state that made the four different ensembles will get together this weekend to rehearse for three days before performing on Saturday starting at 1:15 pm.
