Over the weekend Louisburg High School lost a student, Auston McLellan, in a car accident. As part of the Pay It Forward program, Shawnee Mission East has taken it upon themselves to do something for those students and community members mourning. Just as Olathe East did for East students when they were mourning the death of Tyler Rathbun, East has decided to send key chains in honor of McLellan and personalized letters to Louisburg High School.
“When Tyler Rathbun died last year, Olathe East ‘paid it forward’ and made us keychains and thoughtful letters to try to help make the transition easier and let us know that people were here for us,” Student Council Executive Emmy Privitera said. “When Auston McLellan died, we decided it was our turn to ‘pay it forward’ and we thought it would help them to know that people are there for them also.”
While the student council is organizing this, the junior and senior students will be writing messages to encourage and support the Louisburg High School community. These messages will be attached to the key chains and sent to the school as soon as they are available.
