Tables outside the counseling center have been made available to school-sponsored clubs to sell items or promote events for their respective clubs every Friday morning beginning at 7:15.
Clubs and organizations that have been a part of this so far include the drill team, The Freelancer literary magazine, choir, marketing, French club, and Coalition. Associate Principal Jeff Storey introduced this idea to East this year.
“I would just like it to be like a bazaar on Fridays that everyone knows they can come by in the mornings,” Storey said. “I send an email to all school-sponsored clubs asking if they have anything they want to sell or promote on Friday. It’s been pretty successful”
Storey hopes that athletics can also get involved in selling spirit wear items before school, so that students that cannot attend sporting events can still support the team by purchasing spirit wear.
Coalition, a club that works towards raising awareness and funds for global issues, has been a frequent participant in the Friday morning sales. Club Executive, junior Carolyn Wassmer has found the opportunity to sell items before school very beneficial to her club.
“We sold 56 SME Charity:Water water bottles [on Friday],” Wassmer said. “All of the proceeds went to [East Alumnus] Jack Sernett’s Charity: Water foundation.”
Wassmer and other Coalition members plan to continue to utilize this new opportunity for clubs throughout the year. Storey predicts that more clubs will take advantage of Friday morning sales in the future.
