Area elementary schools, Indian Hills Middle School and Shawnee Mission East will be showcasing their skills at the choir East area festival tonight.
The event started before current choir director Ken Foley was teaching at East. The festival is meant to show off what East choir students have learned from being in choir for so many years.
“This festival will help to show sort of the vertical picture of choirs in our area,” Foley said.
By watching the higher choirs perform, elementary and middle school students become excited for when they’re in high school choir. The event shows the younger choir students what to expect out of the choral program in their upcoming years in the Shawnee Mission school district.
The festival will be held in East’s main gym on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. Senior Chambers choir member Sally Sweeney feels the festival will be helpful for all of the participating students.
“It’s awesome knowing that we are getting to inspire younger kids to get excited for choir at East,” Sweeney said.
