Dutch’s Brew: A review of the new fall menu from Dutch Bros

My favorite part of autumn has always been the seasonal drink flavors offered at coffee shops around town. I religiously order a pumpkin cream cold brew from Starbucks the second the fall menu comes out, so I was hopeful when I saw the newly released fall menu at Dutch Bros on TikTok.

The menu includes three new drinks that came out on Aug. 23.—  the Caramel Pumpkin Brûlée Breve, the Cookie Butter Latte and a Caramel Apple Rebel.

Caramel Pumpkin Brûlée Breve: 6/10

The Caramel Pumpkin Brûlée Breve was first up on my taste test. A Breve is similar to a latte but half and half is used instead of milk  to give the coffee a richer and thicker consistency.

This drink was topped with cold foam, caramel drizzle and sugary sprinkles to top it off.

I enjoyed the consistency, icy like a frappuccino, however the drink was too milky to even taste to coffee— even though it’s described as a coffee drink.

The drink had no trace of pumpkin, which bothered me because it was advertised as a pumpkin drink.I will give this drink some justice because I liked the consistency of the Breve. It was unique and refreshing, and the caramel and sprinkles on top added more flavor overall.

Cookie Butter Latte: 8/10

The second drink I tried was the Cookie Butter Latte. After enjoying Dunkin’s cookie butter latte last fall I was anxious to see how this one would compare.

This drink had a subtle cookie butter flavoring which wasn’t too overpowering which I enjoyed, and was topped with cold foam and cookie butter drizzle. I liked the taste of this drink which wasn’t too sweet unlike the Caramel Pumpkin Brûlée Breve

However, once again this drink lacked my desired coffee taste. It had a little more coffee flavor than the breve but I added espresso after the fact which helped the lack of coffee. This was my favorite out of all the drinks because I already love cookie butter-flavored treats and the drink had a good balance of sweetness and coffee.

Caramel Apple Rebel: 2/10

Concluding the autumn menu was the Caramel Apple Rebel. Unlike the first two, this drink was a bright green apple energy drink with a sweet caramel flavoring. The drink attempted to resemble a caramel apple but was overpowered with an artificial caramel flavor.

I don’t know who thought these flavors in an energy drink would be good, but I couldn’t take more than three sips of this drink.

The appearance was a green apple color, and the only thing I liked about this drink was that it was carbonated. The two seconds of sweet apple taste after the first sip was enjoyable, but once the caramel flavor hit my tongue, the entire drink was ruined. It resembles a Celsius in the beginning with its carbonation and fruity taste, but the artificial caramel apple flavor threw me off and not in a good way.

I would come back to Dutch Bros every once in a while to get a sweet drink when I’m in the mood for a coffee that tastes like dessert, but I will also add a shot of espresso to balance out the sweetness. If you dislike coffee tastes and want a fall drink, I recommend the lattes.
