After about a 25 minute drive to Westport and spending what seemed like 30 minutes trying to park, I finally arrived at the newest chain brunch spot, Snooze.
I thought that this sort of brunch chain would be something relating to first watch and the average breakfast foods — well you could call Snooze an exaggeration of those places. As the yellow and red walls shot at me and Kansas City citizens were crashing in all at once, I realized this wasn’t some pancake shack I thought it was gonna be.
You would think a 45 minute wait in a crowded restaurant would be such a drag, but you wouldn’t believe the things they offer that can fill the time. You could just go outside to the towering Jenga or the mini Cornhole games that families can do to pass the time a lot quicker before stuffing their kids faces with pancakes.
After I had put my name in they asked for my number and gave me text updates on when I would be seated. These texts notifications fit perfectly for the busy lives of the many people who visit the spot. It makes it easy for customers to be able to wander off in the nearby shops, but still know when they can expect to be seated.
Free coffee is given to you during your wait to make it more enjoyable. It’s no extravagant cappuccino at Starbucks but I would give it a 3.5 stars for one, being free, and two, getting my mind off again, the 45 minute wait. Then finally I got the text I had been waiting for.
The text read, “Snooze is calling! Your table will be ready shortly. Please see the host stand to get this party started!”
Summer came into my brain after gulping down the freshly pressed watermelon juice they gave me. After that i flipped the tall menu to the back side and realized how many ways I could really go with my breakfast — from classic pancakes to anything from egg tacos and benedicts.
The service there made me want to ask for an application with their high smiles and filling my water glass up every two minutes. They helped me make my decision on what I was getting — Bella Bella Benny.
My order consisted of thin slices of prosciutto, cheese and poached eggs on toasted ciabatta, topped with a balsamic glaze. This is not a meal I would traditionally go for but I trusted the server, and I absolutely don’t regret it.
The combination of the flavors melted in my mouth all at once, and with every bite it got better. In what felt like only a few short minutes I noticed I had got lost in the savory taste and had eaten every last bit of the Bella Bella Benny.
So whenever I’m looking for that first-bite feeling and my tastebuds are craving the refreshing watermelon juice taste of summer, you’ll know where to find me.
