SETH ARVESEN
College: Missouri State University
How did you decide to go to your college?
It is affordable, close enough to home, but not too close, like 45 minutes away, so I like how it’s a weekend’s distance away but not like a 12 hour drive. I know they have a good rock climbing club so that’s a big reason I’m going and it’s close to Arkansas so if it’s two hours away from some of the country’s best climbing, I’m going to go there.
What are you most looking forward to next year?
The rock climbing club at Missouri State, easily. No question about it. They go on climbing trips every other week.
What are you going to miss the most about East?
I’ll miss the people, easily, the most [and] some of the teachers. I will miss the lack of responsibility that I have: I don’t have to pay for any bills, I don’t pay for my own food, I don’t pay for car insurance, all I have to pay for is gas right now, which is nice.
AMANDA ANDERSON
College: San Diego State University
How did you decide to go to your college?
I decided to go there because my uncle lives in San Diego, so I go out there and visit a lot. I just really really like it there and it’s really far away from Kansas which is like my number one criteria for a school, like just about as far away as I could possibly get.
What are you most looking forward to next year?
I’m majoring in political science and it’s kind of something I’ve always wanted to major in. I’m really excited to meet new people, I’m excited to be by the beach. I’m excited that there’s a bowling alley two minutes away from my dorm because they have one on campus.
What will you miss most about East?
I’m going to miss the bowling team the most, honestly. I did it for all four years, so everyone on the team is really close to me and it was one of the most fun parts of high school.
STUART HANSON
College: American University in Washington D.C.
How did you decide to go to your college?
I visited it, and I loved it, the school’s really beautiful. It’s No. 6 for international relations and top 20 for political science.
What are you most looking forward to next year?
I am really excited for the student life and I’m double majoring in CLEG (Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics and Government) and International Relations.
What will you miss most about East?
I’m going to miss the people. I really have grown close to a lot of teachers and a lot of people and I have come to love the environment.
WILL BRUSO
College: University of Miami of Ohio.
How did you decide to go to your college?
For me it was more just kind of wanting to get away from home and wanting to have a fresh start for college. I toured Miami and they had some really great facilities and they have a high success rate for students graduating and then moving on to a profession or graduate studies.
What are you most looking forward to next year?
The new start, the new environment, and getting to met new people from all across the country. It’s not like going to KU where it’s a bunch of your high school friends, it’s a completely new experience.
What will you miss most about East?
The friends I’ve had here and the memories I’ve made here. I mean, this has been my home for four years, just kind of everything East has to offer [and] the lacrosse team, that’s about it.
OLIVIA CAPONECCHI
College: University of Michigan
How did you decide to go to your college?
It was the first college I visited junior year and I think once I applied to a bunch of schools, it seemed to be the place I felt most at home, I guess. I think overall their athletics and school spirit in general are so amazing that I felt like that was the place for me.
What are you most looking forwards to next year?
I’m honestly most excited to just live in Michigan, the town is so amazing and I’ve only heard so many great things, so I am just really excited to basically have a whole new experience and start over.
What are you going to miss the most about East?
I think just like this really tight knit community, obviously being here for four years I’ve met so many people and gotten involved in so many activities and really created so many relationships with teachers, so I think that will be sad leaving that and I’m just most excited to meet new people.
