DECA Students Attend First Competition

The first DECA competition was held Tuesday night at Blue Valley Northwest high school. DECA is a competition that all Marketing 1 and 2 students are able to participate in. Students are given a list of categories to compete in and are given the option to compete individually or with a partner.

The competition starts with role play which is posed as a fake business meeting. Students are given a case study corresponding with the category they chose to compete in, and then have fifteen minutes to prepare for the role play with the information given. Following the role play, students are required to take a 100 question test based off of the category they competed in.

Senior Kansas DECA vice president Noah Marsh said that after a year of competing on the state and national level, the DECA seniors felt more confident. The competition was also the first for underclassman Marketing students.

“It was surprisingly fun,” junior Audrey Dickens said. “It gave me a big adrenaline rush. I plan on going into the next one a little more calm and relaxed since I will know what to expect.”
