Debate Wins First at DCI Tournament, Second at Novice State

The debate squad took on two tournaments this past weekend and brought home multiple new trophies to add to their collection. Varsity went to the Kansas Debate Coaches Invitation (DCI), which was an exclusive tournament for the best 50 teams in Kansas hosted at BV North. Four East teams participated in the event, and three of the teams placed in the top ten. Senior Ali Dastjerdi was awarded the First Speaker Award out of 100 debaters. Senior Henry Walter took Second Speaker and senior Shrusti Mehta took sixth speaker. The team will take part in the KSHSAA 6A State Tournament in Derby this weekend.

Seventh Place with a 5-2 record: Will Bledsoe and Spencer Mitchell

Eighth Place with a 5-2 record: Jack Werner and Parker Mitchell

The novice team also went to Novice State at BV West, where the team placed second place in sweepstakes out of 45 teams.
