Debate Sweeps Washington Rural Tournament

Last weekend the debate team swept 38 schools to win the Washington Rural tournament. Seniors Ali Dastjerdi and Henry Walter defeated Manhattan to win the varsity competition, with senior Shrusti Mehta and junior Bhavish Dinakar taking third. Seniors Parker Mitchell and Jack Werner were the ninth seed and missed breaking to varsity quarterfinals by one point.

"It was really awesome winning the varsity competition," Dastjerdi said. "We beat some very good competition and it was a great start to our season."

In the JV competition, juniors Nina Andersen and Isabel Holloway took second place. The top three varsity teams will have a break from competing until the St. Marks tournament in Texas in mid October, but the other two varsity teams will compete at Valley High School in Iowa this weekend.
