A group of Chinese professors and deans, mainly from the Nanjing University of Technology, visited East yesterday. Associate Principal Jeremy Higgins led the group on a tour of the East athletic facilities and explained the East physical education program through three translators.
Through a connection with the University of Missouri – Kansas City, the group is traveling throughout Kansas to see various athletic facilities. Their stops include the University of Kansas, William Jewell College, UMKC, East and local elementary and middle schools.
The goal of the tour is for the professors and deans to learn about American physical education. At East, Higgins showed the group all three basketball courts, the tennis courts, the football field, the weight room and the dance room. Higgins said that the visitors were impressed by the size and cleanliness of the East facilities.
“They were really blown away by our facilities, especially the weights room,” Higgins said. “Apparently in China, only adults get to lift weights, so they were impressed that all of our students had that opportunity. I think they really liked [East].
