The Lancer Cheerleading teams won several awards at the Blue Valley Southwest Cheer Fest last Saturday. The team was divided into two groups for the competition: Varsity and Non-Varsity. The Varsity division squad was composed of the entire Varsity cheer team and several JV cheerleaders. The Non-Varsity division squad was made up of the Freshman squad and the rest of the JV cheerleaders.
The non-Varsity division team won their division and head coach Lindsey Haymond reported that their ratings were noticeably higher than their competition. Their routine also won Best Routine over the competitors.
Haymond said that the Varsity division squad struggled but still won the Best Cheer rating, along with a second place rating for their routine.
“Varsity had a fall, but they recovered well from it,” Haymond said. “I’m really, really proud of both teams.”
The entire cheer squad is now preparing for their next competition on Dec. 1. For this competition, they will be focusing on making their routine both more complicated and polished. The team will also be cheering at basketball games throughout the winter season.
