Apple’s newest product, the Apple Vision Pro, was exclusively released to the United States on Feb. 2, introducing software never before seen in common-use technology, according to Apple. The $3,000 goggles have the ability to project calls, entertainment, anything you can imagine, anywhere you are.
Apple describes the goggles as “elegant” and “compact,” yet students have complaints about the portability and style of the goggles — Junior Taylor McCarthy says that they’re something that wouldn’t be realistic to have as an everyday device.
“Looking at the bulk and size of the goggles, I couldn’t see anyone walking around a park or getting coffee with them on.” McCarthy said. “They look absolutely crazy.”
With the introduction of such immersive technology, users on social media questions how it may further reliance on devices to do everyday tasks because instead of pulling out a phone, you have a piece of technology over your eyes.McCarthy worries that it may especially affect teenagers because of the already present excessive phone usage among the age group.
“I’ve already had to set [restrictions] on my phone because I keep finding myself scrolling,” McCarthy said. “It’s bad enough with a handheld screen, I don’t know how I could handle tech goggles.”
It hasn’t been confirmed when Apple will release the product to countries outside of the U.S. Junior Lily Orpeza says that she’s scared for the future of technology and how it will affect the future.
“It’s frightening to see [goggles] for the everyday person projecting things right in front of you,” Orpeza said. “The future is in the hands of tech, and it’s moving too fast.
