Changing the School for the LGBT

Monday, May  4, principal John McKinney met with the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), to discuss ways to help better the daily lives of LGBT students at East. One of the big issues, was creating gender neutral bathrooms, to give transgender students a place to go to the bathroom comfortably. The meeting also discussed the possibility of a seminar for teachers, to help them know how to include and support LGBT students. GSA also wants to organize assemblies for students, to inform students on topics they may be confused on and help create more understanding and acceptance at East.

“I want students to feel comfortable and good,” McKinney said, “that if someone is going through something like transitioning, I want to help”
