Breaking News: Masks will be optional in middle and high schools starting Feb. 16

The SMSD School Board announced in Feb. 14’s board meeting that masks will be optional in middle and high schools starting this Wednesday, Feb 16.

Masks are still required in K-6 schools but they will be re-evaluating that on Thursday.

The school board also passed a new COVID-19 mitigation plan with an updated threshold for masking. If schools reach over 3% positive COVID-19 cases or over 5% of the absentee rate is related to illness that school will return to full mask requirements. This will last for at least 14 days and until the number of positive cases gets below 3% or the rate of absences related to illness drops below 5%.
