Breaking News: Junior Board final presentation results

The results of the Junior Board final presentations were announced on April 9 at 3:35 p.m.. The winning group did their project for UPLIFT and the group consisted of sophomores Catherine Beltrame, Anna Cicero, Claire Langford, Libby Marsh and Sophia Brockmeier. The UPLIFT group won $2,500 for the organization.

UPLIFT is an organization that takes four vans out delivering supplies and food directly to homeless people in the Kansas City area.

Junior Board members choose a non-profit agency to research and then present to a panel of three judges.

“UPLIFT is meaningful because they really go out to help the homeless and they’re letting them understand that they matter to people in our community,” Langford said. “I can’t wait to give the money to [the president], he’s going to be so happy.”

Five teams competed this year for the first place prize of $2,500 to be given to the organization that they represented. While the winning team gets the largest sum of money, each team gets $1,000 to $2,000 based on placing.

Sophomore Kai Campbell was part of the fourth place Cultivate KC team, and feels that the effort that their team put in paid off — giving the Cultivate KC team a $1,000 prize. Cultivate KC is an organization that helps immigrant farmers learn how to farm in the Kansas City area.

“I was able to really figure out what I wanted to put on the slides and what the judges really appreciate this year,” Campbell said. “I was really proud of my soft outcomes. I talked about this lady from Burma, who’s been really successful and grows flowers and carrots [in her garden]. I think that was probably the part that I did best.”
