The Academic Decathlon team placed third in their recent state competition.
Taking place on Jan. 28, the team made up of Coleman Brockmeier, Caleb Hanlon, Amber Laprairie, Mallory Kirk, Natalie Grills, Paige Hessenflow, Priscilla Acero, Dymond Rainey and Nick Hale competed against eight other teams from the Kansas City Metro Area. Their third place finish was a significantly better result than the last time around.
“Last year we got seventh place, so this is a big improvement,” senior Coleman Brockmeier said.
Academic Decathlon is an academic competition with 10 categories of competition, some being multiple choice and some being in-person events. Multiple choice categories include math, social science, economics, literature, music, art and science. These include speech, essay and interview which are scored by judges.
For anyone interested, Academic Decathlon meetings start at the beginning of next year in room 319, which is Mr. Migliazzo’s room.
