Local elections for Kansas took place on Nov. 7, and Prairie Village elected four new council members.

The city council results are as follows:

Ward 1: Terry O’Toole
Ward 2: Inga Selders (I)
Ward 3: Lori Sharp
Ward 4: Tyler Angiel
Ward 5: Nicholas Reddell (I)
Ward 6: Ian Graves (I)

This election has seen a significant voter increase compared to previous elections, according to the newest polling statistics. As for what to expect, many of the incoming Council Members mentioned that they plan on settling the rezoning debate.

“The last year hasn’t been enjoyable for anybody,” O’Toole said to the Shawnee Mission Post. “I wouldn’t have run if I didn’t think there was a middle ground that we could all come together on, and I’m excited to be a part of that as a solution.”

Along with the city council election the poll for Shawnee Mission School Board were also held, and the board seats are filled as follows:

Mario Garcia III
Jessica Hembree (I)
Jamie Borgman (I)
David Westbrook

The board agrees that the issue they hope to solve are teacher retention, library book content and equity and inclusion, according to voters in the district.
