With an overall record of 9-9, the boys varsity basketball team played the Olathe West Owls on Feb. 25 at home. At the beginning of the game, the Lancers welcomed the IHMS Knights basketball team to the court for the national anthem. After the Lancers won the tipoff, senior Walt Jones made two three point shots from the right wing on back to back possessions, putting the lancers up 6-0. The Lancers continued on the rest of the first half, leading 35-28 going into halftime. In the second half, the Lancers scored another 24 points, putting their score at 59-58 going into the final possession. In the final possession, the Olathe West Owls had 41 seconds on the clock giving themselves a full shot clock and an extra six seconds after. The Owls used their first opportunity to run a play that ran the shot clock down to four seconds causing the Owls’ coach to call a timeout with 10 seconds on the game clock and four on the shot clock. In the last four seconds, the Owls ran an inbounds play in front of their own bench, leading into a three point shot attempt that missed and was rebounded by senior Cole Chinnok who ran the ball down court to end the game 59-58 Lancers.
