Boys Swim Updates: Boys swim prapares for their League meet on Feb. 6

Current Placement

  • The boys' swim team placed 2nd in the state in 2025.
  • The current team's ranking is unknown.

Top Performer

  • Everyone who has reached a certain time/scores already received a state cut, including divers Grant Kimmel and Graham Desler, and swimmers Luke Sinatra, Briggs Perry, Barrett Tegtmeier, Charlie Holloway, Sawyer Chapman, Emmet Lynch, Cole Person and Luke Sinatra. 

Upcoming Competitions

  • Varsity League happened Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7, while JV League happened Monday Feb. 2. 
  • State Championships will occur around late February.

Strengths

  • “I have two really strong divers that should place in the top eight in both [Sunflower] League and State [championships] ,” said SM East Dive Assistant Coach Betsy Anderson.

Weaknesses

  • "The only weakness is that we haven't won together. The last people who have won were a year older, so freshman in college," Sawyer Chapman said. "No one here knows what it's like to win."

Injuries

  • Chase Kvapil, a top swimmer, tore his ACL at the beginning of the season and his teammates fear that the team might be affected at state. Aside from that, there have been no other injuries.
  • The only diver currently out is Freshman Charlie Goss for a torn foot ligament. 

Lineup Changes

  • There is no current line up changes.

Other Standouts

  • Boys such as, Grant Kimmel, Barrett Tagmeyer, Sawyer Chapman, Emmet Lynch, and Charlie Holloway have been qualifying for state early, which takes the stress off of the team and allows them to work on their strokes.
  • "If you get your state cut early, you have a lot of time to prepare and work on your strokes for the state meet with out having the stress of qualifying to go to state," Chapman said.
