Boys Swim and Dive Updates: Boys varsity swim team placed first in the state

Current Placement

  • The boys varsity swim team placed first in the state at the State Championships on Feb. 20 and Feb. 21. 
  • Divers senior Grant Kimmel placed third overall and sophomore Graham Delzer placed fifth overall at the state championships. 
  • "It's the first time we've done it in four years and we've been so close so it felt good to finally win it,” sophomore Harvey Mariner said.

Top Performers

  • Freshman Jack Durbin really pulled through at state, competing the best he has all season, according to freshman Ben Walsh. Durbin competed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.99 compared to his time at the beginning of the season, 1:10:93.

Upcoming Events

  • The swim team is going to Topeka, Kansas on March 9 to meet governor Laura Kelly and receive rings to celebrate their state win.

Strengths

  • “The whole team, cheering everyone on, that is what made everyone want to try their hardest,” Walsh  said. 

Other

  • The swim team continued a state tradition: upperclassmen giving underclassmen buzz cuts.
