For only the second time in school history, the East bowling team is headed to State. Setting a new school record of 2650 at regionals, the team came in third place, behind only Olathe East and Olathe North at regionals yesterday.
East’s high series was a score of 666, set by senior Noah Modean. The top four bowlers for East all scored over 600. East just barely passed Olathe South by a mere 15 pins, to finish as the only non-Olathe school to make State.
“It feels really good since it’s only the second time in school history,” junior Caleb Moore said. “We were all really excited to hear that we qualified for state because we weren’t expecting the whole team to qualify. We also set a school record yesterday for our best score, so all around it was a huge win for the team.”
The State tournament will be held next Friday, March 6. Twelve schools will attend, with a total of 72 bowlers — six from East. According to senior Mike Thibodeau, the biggest goal of the year was to make State, so now that they’ve done that, the pressure is off.
“There’s definitely a lot of hope for some of the guys to do well at state,” Thibodeau said. “But now that we’ve made state the pressure is off, so I’m just going to go out there and bowl. I’m just looking forward to getting out there and just having fun, and enjoying my last meet of high school.”
