Q&A with girls varsity lacrosse captain Jensen Pindell
When did you start playing lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse in fifth grade for the St. Paul’s joint team with Pembroke Hill.
What caused you to pick up the sport?
I started playing because I wanted to try a new sport. My sisters and I all played the same sports, so I wanted to do something different. My dad had played a bit and said it would be fun. So, I tried it out and I loved it.
Who has influenced you the most throughout your career?
My dad has influenced me the most because he has been to almost every game since I started playing. He’s talked to me about the game and what I can do better or what he thinks we should work on as a team. He’s helped me learn how to take constructive criticism better and make me an all-around better player.
Do you play on any teams outside of the Shawnee Mission Blues?
I do not, I only play for East.
What have you learned from playing lacrosse aside from the sport itself?
I have learned how to cooperate with people as a team.
What is your greatest strength as a player?
I think my endurance is one of the main ones. Also, keeping the team positive when we are down or aren’t playing well because ultimately you think we need to be in a positive state of mind in order to perform well.
How did you become a captain of the team?
Girls who felt like they would be good leaders and properly fill the captain role nominated themselves or put themselves in the running for candidates. Then the team voted and I was picked as captain.
What are your goals as an individual player this season?
As an individual, I want to better my stick skills and make my shot more accurate this season.
What are your goals for the team this season?
My biggest goal for the team this year is to make it to the championship.
