Athlete of the Week: Emily Moseley

By

As the spring sports season begins, junior Emily Moseley has been preparing for the soccer season by training during the off-season and going to practices. She’s excited to play after last year’s season was cancelled. Here’s a Q&A to hear more of Moseley’s thoughts on the upcoming season.

Q: How have you been preparing for the season?

A: “I play club soccer all through the year so my season just ended. We play in a league and travel out of town for tournaments. I’ve just made sure I’m in shape for high school season.”

Q: How is the team preparing for the season?

A: “We started with defense and working together. Also communication [since] we’re a pretty young team, especially because we didn’t play last year, we’ve got two years of new players basically. So working on communicating as a team is important too.”

Q: What are you looking forward to?

A: “I am most looking forward to probably the [Aquinas] tournament and hopefully a good run at State — obviously the main goal — and winning our League.”

Q: What are your individual and team goals?

A: “As a team obviously our goal would be to win Sunflower League then go to State and win State. Also just to grow as a team, and we want to end the season better than we started it. Individually kind of the same mindset, just to come to practice every day to get better and end up a better player and person at the end of the season.”

Q: How has the season changed because of COVID-19?

A: “There’s a lot more rules with quarantining because if someone tests positive we would get shut down. There’s also a ‘Return to Play’ policy they’ve just added to all spring sports, so there’s a lot more rules with that. As of right now, we’re not supposed to have team dinners at anyone’s house, we have to wear masks pretty much at all times and there’s a contact tracing form.”

Q: Are you worried about COVID-19 affecting the season?

A: “With our spring break being so late, if anyone was to test positive for Corona a week after that could potentially end our season just with all of the quarantining and “Return to Play” policy. Everyone just wants to be super careful because as soon as one person tests positive the whole thing shuts down.”
