Athlete of the Week: Destiny Ray

Q&A with senior Varsity Track and Field Athlete Destiny Ray. Ray has been on varsity for four years running the 100, 200, 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Ray set the current East 100 meter sprint record at 11.97 seconds as well as been a part of the current 4×100 record at 49.66 seconds.

Q: What are you looking forward to this season for track?

A: Learning new things about new people coming in because we have a lot of new people. Also seeing how I can move forward as an athlete and seeing what place I can get this year for state.

Q: What are your goals for this season?

A: My goal is to try and win state this year and break as many records as I can before I leave my senior year.

Q: What does a typical track practice look like?

A: We start with warm ups and a warm up lap. Then after that we split into our different groups and do like a-skips, sprint mechanics, then we start doing our actual workout.

Q: How have you been preparing for this season?

A: I’ve been working out and going to conditioning and that’s kind of helped me. I’ve been eating good foods.

Q: What’s your favorite part of practice and meets?

A: My favorite part of practice is just being able to be yourself and act goofy around people you know aren’t going to judge you. We are so close with each other that we can do weird things around each other. My favorite part about meets is seeing different talents from different schools and meeting new people.
