Outside of the counseling center, in the art hallway and in the library, students’ work is currently on display now through Thursday. This work is part of the East Art Fair which features work from every art class at East. Student’s work is placed on display and judged between Dec. 2 and Dec. 12 by local artists and art curators.

Junior Sarah Cook is a student who won best in show in their category for her acrylic painting based on Gerhard Richter’s work.

“I got best of show for one of my paintings, an honorable mention and one hasn’t been judged yet,” Cook said. “I was really glad because I had worked really hard on it. I always like seeing my friends win because it’s a great experience.”

The awards are handed out on Thursday, Dec. 12. According to art teacher Adam Finkelston, this is his favorite part about the fair.

“My favorite part about the whole thing is handing out awards,” Finkleston said. “That’s always fun. Handing out awards is always a good thing to do.”

Along with the students work on display, students also create work to sell. The profits from the sales of these arts and crafts benefit the National Art Honor Society (NAHS).

“The art sale is a separate event and that’s sponsored by the [Parent Teachers Association],” Finkleston said. “The art sale is sponsored by NAHS and friends of art which is the art booster club. It’s all student made and [the profits] go towards National Art Honors Society.”
