Your heinous selfies and secretive Snapchats are no longer safe. Sure, there is always the chance that someone will screenshot your snapchat, but at least you receive a notification. Now, with SnapBox, you can view and save people’s snapchats and snapchat stories — without them ever knowing.
Snapchat is a popular app that allows people to send pictures that can be viewed for up to ten seconds. SnapBox, made in October by the app developers Mobilebros, works by accessing the Snapchat account on your phone. The app’s mysterious ways of working is even described as “hacking” in comments in the iTunes App Store.
SnapBox is handy for compiling those weird pictures of your friends or funny videos from snapchat stories, but once people find out you’re using the app, no one will trust you. When receiving a notification for a snapchat, and you want to secretly save it, open SnapBox. Then, once logged in to your snapchat account, you will be able to view and save snapchat pictures, stories or videos you haven’t already viewed. The sender of the Snapchat will still see that their Snapchat has not been opened until you actually open it in the Snapchat app.
I tested it out on a couple friends, and they all said that I never opened the snapchat they sent me. When I showed them the saved picture, they expressed a mix of confusion and anger. SnapBox can also be used to save a video of a concert or special moment the sender neglected to save. It’s almost like using a net to catch a bottle thrown out to sea.
In the iTunes App Store, priced at $3 SnapBox has a 4.5 star rating. However, in some of the comments, it has been reported as being glitchy or ineffective. Some complain that it is annoying that you must go back to the Snapchat app to send a picture.
After using the app for a while, I keep thinking about one question: Though SnapBox can just be used for fun and games, is it worth losing the Snapchat trust of your friends?
