East football coach Dustin Delaney will be teaching a new physical education course at East next year — advanced weights. The course is designed for students that have experience with lifting and would benefit from exercises that may be too challenging for beginners.
“It’s going to be a little bit more catered to the advanced lifters with some little more complicated lifts and exercises,” Delaney said.
Instead of taking class time to teach new students basic exercises at the beginning of every semester, the class will allow Delaney to utilize exercise techniques for more proficient lifters that are unsafe to someone without experience.
“We need to be able to offer kids an advanced setting in physical education, just like we’re offering advanced settings in any other subject in the school,” Delaney said.
Students must have taken at least one standard weights class before enrolling in the new course, being offered for the first time next semester.
